Community Service
Our sisters are dedicated to improving our campus, community and beyond. From reading to children at the Elm Park school, bingo at Dodge Park Rest Home or serving meals at the Wachusett Food Pantry, there is no lack of enthusiasm to dedicating time and effort into our community. Service is a part of our chapter on every level - our socials, philanthropy events, and even sisterhood bonding events all revolve around our interaction with the community.
Listed below are just a few of the service events that our sisters have participated in over the last year:
Food Recovery Network
Every week, we participate in the effort to reduce food waste and fight hunger. Unserved food accumulated in the Morgan Dining Hall is set aside for students to collect and donate to the Friendly House. The Friendly House is a non-profit organization in Worcester that works towards the betterment of less-fortunate residents. Volunteers from our chapter participate in the pick up and drop off of the food on a weekly basis.
Wachusett Food Pantry
On a monthly basis, a group of girls from our chapter travel to the Wachusett Food Pantry where they participate in food distributions with other volunteers from the area. Each distribution lasts three hours, during which time volunteers will help the food pantry visitors pick out food to bring home to their families.
Canned Food/Toiletries Drive
After participating in various food distributions at the Wachusett Food Pantry, we learned that they accepted any non-perishable, non-expired, food and toiletry items donated to them. At the end of the school year, we hosted a canned food and toiletries drive in the campus center and brought all of the items that were collected to the pantry so that they could be used in the next distribution.
Earth Day Clean Up
The Greater Worcester Land Trust hosts volunteer-based monthly clean ups around Worcester in order to manage and protect the land surrounding Worcester. In April, volunteers from our chapter participated in an Earth Day Cleanup at one of their conservation land locations.
